Design and Engineering of Novel Biocatalysts

The 49th ESBOC Symposium will take place at Gregynog (nr. Newtown, Wales) on 15th-17th May 2015, starting at 3.00 pm on Friday 15th May.

The 49th Symposium is entitled “Design and Engineering of Novel Biocatalysts”, and the Chair is Prof. Nicholas Turner (University of Manchester).

The scope of the meeting will include strategies for protein engineering and novel applications of protein engineering for biotechnology.

Plenary speakers are:

  • Frances Arnold (Caltech, USA)
Evolution and the expanding enzyme universe
  • Andy Bommarius (Georgia Tech, USA)
Amine syntheses to life science targets
  • Uwe Bornscheuer (Greifswald, DE)
Enzyme discovery, protein engineering and application in cascade reactions
  • Murray Brown (GSK, UK)
Engineering industrial biocatalysts for pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Sabine Flitsch (Manchester, UK)
Applications of enzymes for carbohydrate synthesis
  • Wolfgang Kroutil (Graz, AU)
    Tuning cascades and tunnels
  • Gerrit Poelarends (Groningen, NL)
Design of novel biocatalysts for carbon-carbon bond formation
  • Alan Berry (Leeds, UK)
Extension of enzyme activity in active sites containing noncanonical
    amino acids
  • Tim Bugg (Warwick, UK)
    Bacterial enzymes for lignin degradation

A provisional programme is now available.

This meeting is co-sponsored by the BBSRC-funded Biocatnet Network. There are several slots available for short talks, intended for younger academics with research interests relevant to the scientific session, for which applicants can apply upon registration. We strongly encourage postdocs and PhD students to attend, and there will be a poster session at the meeting.
